So, on my way out of the hotel parking lot on my way home from the 31st annual Pacific Coast Nationals at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway, I spotted the Loyet Motorsports hauler, so I stopped by and chatted with them for a little bit. After I started to chat with the crew for a little bit, a homeless guy came walking by looking in aw at the midget. After a minute of us pumping the guy up, one of the crew guys walked to the front of the trailor and came back with a t-shirt for the guy. Without hesitation, the guy took his leather jacket off and put on his new Loyet Motorsports t-shirt on over his sweatshirt. Then Joe, team owner, inivted the homeless guy to take a look inside the #o5 midget and the guy was more then happy too. After a minute of the guy in awe, Joe invited the guy to climb into the #o5 midget. It took him a minute to squeeze into the driver seat, but when he got into the seat finally he looked like a natural. The rest of the crew were having fun watching the guy act like he was in a race and cutting people off trying to pass him.

After about 15 to 20 minutes, a friend of the homeless guy was spotted looking at what were doing and the Joe waived him over , so he came over to the hauler while pushing his shopping cart.  When got to the hauler, Joe asked if he want some work done on his cart, so he got out a jack and sprayed WD-40 in the wheel bearings trying to make it the fastest shopping cart in all of Tulare County.   He also was given a Loyet Motorsports t-shirt. And just like the other guy, he was invited to climb into the #o5 midget and he was more then happy to oblige.

Once they were able to get the 2nd of the guys out of the midget, Joe wanted had some photos taken of the newest members of Loyet Motorsports.   After the guys were telling us how greatful they were for us not to run them away and jsut sit down and listen to them for a while, we gave them some drinks and pretzels and they were on there way.   This is one day I will never forget.  Thanks for the memories Loyet Motorsports and the one and only Duck and Goose.

This last sunday was the annual Amador County Fair Destruction Derby held in Plymouth, CA. Over the past 3 years, the destruction derby did not see any of the Gaskin boys (Pete Sr., Pete Jr., or Chris) participate in the derby, but saw 2 fellow Amador County boys win (Bryan Belmares 2007 & 2008 and Ryan Duke 2009). The first heat saw Chris Gaskin win his heat. In the second heat, Ryan Duke got pinned against the wall by a disabled car and ended up finishing 5th in his heat, the last place to get an automatic bid into the main later that night. The third heat saw 2-time champion, Bryan Belmares, pick his hits wisely and ended up winning his heat. So the “Main” was set, 3 A.C. Boys against derby drivers from various counties. Car after car dropped out of the “Main until it came down to the final 3: Chris Gaskin, Ryan Duke, and Bryan Belmares. Each driver took turns hitting each other until Bryan’s rear-end locked up on him and he had to settle for a 3rd place finish, 4th straight top 3 finish. Then it was down to the defending champion, Ryan Duke, against Chris Gaskin. Afte a couple minutes of hitting each other and weaving through fall contestants it came down to Ryan Duke finally throwing his flag up, declaring Chris Gaskin as the 2010 Amador County Fair Destruction Derby Champion.

Photos of the derby can be viewed on my website

2010 Placer County Fair

What a weekend.  It started on thursday when my wife and I attend Folsom’s Thursday Night Market.  Next, my wife and I went to see a friend’s band perform.  I didn’t know what to think about seeing a Beatles tribute band, but Because: A Tribute to the Beatles is well worth the time to see and price of admission wherever they are performing.  Next came night 1 of 2 nights working with WGAS Motorsports.  Night 1 saw 2 street class tuff trucks, 10 open class tuff trucks, 10 4×4 tractor pullers and 3 of the biggest names in monster trucks : Tony Canedo and Play’n For Keeps, Russ Steely piloting Iron Outlaw, and Monster Jam World Finals 6 Freestyle Champion Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter.  Night 2 saw FMX riders Julian De Soto and Jeff Griffin, demolition derby cars from around Northern California and night 2 for the monster trucks.
